Training - TAE Learning Network
The Technical Assistance Exchange (TAE) Learning Network builds upon years of experience in supporting states and territories in the development and implementation of Long-Term Services and Supports (LTSS) reforms including Aging and Disability Resource Centers (ADRC) and Community Living Programs (CLP). Best practices and innovations are highlighted through active learning techniques. Training opportunities are offered on-line through live webcasts, recorded webcasts available for download, and “build your own” training resources (see Options Counseling Training Resources and Tools page below).

As indicated in their brief descriptions, some training courses have been approved by the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) for Continuing Education Unit credits (CEU). At the end of the course, attendees will be required to complete a short exam to assess their understanding of the presented materials and complete an evaluation form, in order to receive CEUs. NASW CEU approval is endorsed by over 38 states. California, Michigan, North Carolina, and West Virginia do not accept National CEU. Please check the National Association of Social Workers website
to find your individual licensing board to verify that they accept NASW approval as well as distance learning experience.
Priorities for areas of emphasis come directly from the Administration on Aging. Such topics have included the ADRC national vision, streamlining access, aging and disability partnerships, options counseling, and serving private pay individuals. The most recent area in content development is ADRCs’ role in care transitions. Targeted work groups are hosted upon request from states to connect with peers or to gain more input from states concerning a specific topic for course content development. Topics also emerge from the narrative semi-annual reports submitted by states. Trainings develop in response to struggles in a particular area or requests for additional guidance and support. Finally, in 2008 the TAE team assessed each state based on the ADRC Fully Functioning Criteria and assigned ratings of “meets criteria, partially meets criteria, and area for growth.” These ratings have also guided topic selection.
Course content comes from synthesis of best practices in ADRC program components. TA partners (NASUAD and NCIL) and state ADRC program staff have contributed to course content and participated in beta testing of course material and format.
The TAE team selects state ADRC staff to co-instruct courses. Selection is based on innovation in ADRC program components. The TAE develops the core of the curriculum drawing from the best practices across the country and offers suggestions for how the co-instructors can illustrate their experience so it is most useful to other states and territories. This mix ensures a balance of showcasing star programs and making ideas within reach for participants. The peer instructors also provide a real life aspect to the concepts in the ADRC vision.
