This call provided a summary of issues related to mental illness in older adults. A speaker from the Administration on Aging (AoA) discussed activities in mental health, while a speaker from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) discussed initiatives and activities concerning older adults.

  • More information on how to handle frequent callers, paranoid callers, etc. in order to use staff time more efficiently.
  • More information and discussion concerning legal issues and the mentally ill, especially in regard to their rights.

Suggestions about what kinds of reports/products for us to develop related to aging and mental health:

  • Conference session or workshop concerning dependencies such as substance abuse or compulsive gambling as they affect the elderly or disabled may be useful.
